Vienna Bound!

Members of NE Voices rehearse with Elisabeth von Trapp.
On Wednesday, Dec. 19 a community chorus made up of 34 teens and adults from New England will depart Boston for Vienna, Austria.  Of these 20 singers and one accompanist will perform during the last week of the world famous Advent sing.  The group will perform in such distinguished venues as the Festival Hall of Vienna's City Hall, St. Peter's Church and Melk Abbey, culminating in a once-in-a-lifetime performance opportunity in Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg on Christmas Day with Elisabeth von Trapp, granddaughter of Baron and Maria von Trapp and daughter of the Baron's middle son, Werner, known worldwide as "Kurt" from the famous Rodgers & Hammerstein musical "The Sound of Music."

Elisabeth von Trapp is a well-renowned musician in her own rite, inspired by the musicality of her family but developing her own stunning voice that has brought her to performances in European cathedrals and Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center.

The New England Voices group will perform on stage with other choral groups from around the world including during the Closing Ceremony of the Advent Sing in Vienna at the Hall of Arms in Vienna's City Hall with other participating choirs, take a Viennese Waltz dancing lesson and enjoy the splendor of the Christmas markets.

On the way to Salzburg, the group will be at the "Silent Night" chapel in Obendorf for Christmas Eve celebrating the 200th anniversary of the famous song.  The program begins at 5 p.m. that night and can be seen via live webcam.  More information is available by visiting: http://www.stillenacht.info/en/

Join the group on their journey through this blog, where we will post photos, videos and anecdotes as we share our love of music with the world!  Until then, auf Wiedersehen und Frohe Weihnachten!
